Giving Alganon a shot this week

I know I am a bit late but I decided to give Alganon a try. I have only played a bit so far but have definitly gotten a feel for the game. First thing I noticed is the population, the world feels empty I do not see too many people running around. I talked to a few vets about it and they said that they have seen the population growing very slowly, I am just suprised they haven't merged both servers that would help solve the issue. The ranger skills seem a bit different and interested but the general progression is the same as any typical mmo, nothing new here. WoWish graphics.. u got em, graphics look like a clone same with the UI.

Gotta admit I did get immersed in some the the quests, I found a few to be really fun even at lower lvls. Though alot of others were the typical go kill this and bring me that quests. Even with the lower population the community is really tight knit and mature which is nice. I plan on putting more hours into this game during the week and will post a more indepth review if I feel its worth it.

MMORPG companies that take your preorder money then fail.

Its becoming a common trend in todays mmo's. You know pre-order 6 months before the actual release date then the games delayed for another 6 months. Alot of people reported big problems with Mortal Online. their preorder special edition was over $100 dollars and most reported their shipments incorrect. So what is the real benefit of pre-ordering an mmorpg? Why do people take the risk and not just wait for it to release. Problem that I see is that companies are offering beta for the sake of getting the pre-order money therfore getting people in the game that actually don't care about reporting bugs but well just to play the game.

So we have a bug ridden game with 100,000+ open beta testers probably only 25,000 are reporting bugs. When release finally comes the subscription base goes from 300,000 and drops to 10,000 in a matter of two weeks. They are pressured financially but releasing a game thats nearly unplayable will destory it, and you know how hard it is to bring back players. What do you see in these common practices?

When beggars attack!!

Final Fantasy XIV open beta has begun!

Well this is one I may be looking foward to, I am currently in open beta. So far its pretty damn laggy. Your kinda just thrown in the world with no direction which is a nice change from current mmo's. So your on your own adventure it seems right now (Im only lvl 5). The UI is somewhat annoying kinda clunked together. Basically my main gripes right now the laggy and crappy UI (chatting, looting, combat logs etc)

I think some of the good things are the multi-classing system, very interesting and it looks like its finally being done right. The world is HUGE but not EMPTY which in my opinion really helps knit a community together. The problem with Vanguard wasn't the amazing size of the world but the lack of actual content, This evades that problem. Crafting is really fun as well.. very indepth, lots to do.

I only have been playing for a bit, theres still much features I haven't gotten to yet. we'll see what happens hopfully final fantasy XIV pulls through.
